Now, to the story:
*
He pushes a wheelbarrow out to the field. My hands get clammy. I wish I could say it’s just from the sun.
He gets to work, muscles moving underneath his shirt. The jerk. I’m Gloria Freakin’ Gonzalez. The least he could do is spare me a glance. I mean, it’s only right since I’ve tried talking to him countless times through the tall fence. I even sat outside once in a bikini, surrounded by roses. And I invited a bunch of friends over, like see, everybody loves me.
Nothing works.
I pat my breasts. “You win some, you lose some, right?” I sigh and glare over at the field.
Just then, some elderly woman with sagging tattoos comes out of his house. She hobbles over to him and taps his shoulder, pausing his sifting through the dirt.
She makes a sweeping motion with her left hand. Then another with her right.
He nods and moves his hands with quick, measured gestures.
I gasp. “He’s deaf?!”
The woman jerks her head up, startled.
I hurry back inside, blushing, grinning, and restrategizing. Game back on.

I couldn’t help smiling at the end, she certainly knows what she wants doesn’t she?

😀 She really does. And I’m glad it made you smile lol

Hahaha, it’s time for a plan B! Girl knows what she wants 😄

Lol! Exactly. She was a fun, determined character to write with this prompt

I doubt that she will waste any time in figuring out how to reach him. She sounds like a very persistent person. Great story.

Yeah, I can’t see her wasting any time either, lol. She lives by the motto that life is happening now. Going for what she wants is a habit 😀

Great story! It reminds me of, “Everything isn’t always what it seems.” LOL! Now she can come up with a new plan of action. Your story kept me riveted to my seat!

Ha! That quote fits perfectly, PJ. I’m glad this fun take kept your attention.

I am so glad she can see beyond him being deaf.

Oh, yes. It would be different for her, but she’s not put off at all. 😀

Haha Izzy you’re back! Yay! I always love your interesting takes. I love the image of this neighbour in a bikini trying to get this hot guy gardening to see her and talk to her. I’m sure he definitely sees, now she’ll have to figure out how to communicate. I’m happy she likes him despite his disability, it doesn’t even enter her mind that it’s an issue. Way to go Izzy 🙂

Mandi! *hugs* Ha, yes, I’m back to this wonderful community and glad you enjoyed my flash fiction, too. I’m 100% sure the guy has noticed her, and nope, she doesn’t seem intimidated by him being Deaf. 😀 Great catch on that! My MC isn’t so familiar with the language, culture, and life, but she’s very much interested. She’s going for it and taking a chance. Hopefully, the gardener is willing, too.

Great. I hope the Gardner is willing 🙂 I think if she needs to learn sign language, that will be an excellent thing to bond them Asa couple too!

Mmm, I can picture that now (bonding as she learns sign language, and he practices reading lips more). ^_^

I’m glad that his disability hasn’t put her off. She’s definitely a determined woman with a very clear view if what she wants! A great story, Izzy, with a wonderfully vivid character. 🙂

Thanks! Vivid and determined are great descriptions for her lol. And nope, him being Deaf doesn’t put her off at all. Good catch with that. Thanks, again

Well, she’s enterprising, I’ll give her that, even if a tiny bit full of herself. I wonder whether Mr Dreamboat has spied her through the fence and is just making her wait? Great story with a strong build up and a satisfying pay off. Nicely done.
My first time on FFfAW and loving everyone’s stories so far 🙂

I’m glad you’ve joined the challenge and enjoyed our diverse stories. As for my character, she’s a mix of things but mostly true to herself and what she wants (lol). Thanks for reading, and sharing your own take of the prompt (Stan and Colin’s story. Ha! Unicorn poo)

I wonder if she’ll be successful with him in the end? A change of tactics is needed, I think. Thanks for reading, Izzy. 🙂

Oh, I like this very much, Izzy. You made her character come alive and showed us her mixed-up feelings over the way he ignores her. We have various emotions tumbling out – Including puzzlement, disappointment, indignation and hurt pride. And in the end she shows elation and gutsy determination to rethink her strategies.

Ooh, I’m so happy you noticed her mix of emotions and felt that she was alive. As a great writer yourself, I’m sure you know how thrilling that is to hear (or read). Thank you so much!

I’m very character driven in my writing, Izzy, and I rarely like novels which don’t delve into emotions. They’re what life’s all about, after all. Feelings are what make characters tick and what bring characters to life for the reader. You did that well in your story! 🙂
