When and why did you start taking writing seriously?
For me, it was when I lost my house to a pissed off hurricane (I was in middle school). Nearly lost my mom, too. As the raw, wet winds whipped every inch of me, I looked at my family and neighbors. Really looked at them and wondered and cared about their perspectives. As Plumb put it, “Everybody’s got a story to tell. And everybody’s got a wound to be healed.” We shared that brilliantly horrific experience, but each and every last one of us would tell it to you differently. And how captivating is that?
I’d thought we’d never come back from that one, but here I am telling you a short version, my version, of what happened and how it redefined my attitude towards writing.
What about you? What’s your story?
